Albemarle (Rockwood Lithium GmbH)

Rockwood Lithium is the world’s leading supplier of lithium compounds like butyllithium, lithium-hydrides, -alkoxides, and -amides. Furthermore Rockwood Lithium supplies other organometallics, cesium compounds as well as special metals. Headquartered in Germany, Rockwood Lithium serves its customers with a worldwide network of sales offices as well as with production sites in Germany, both South and North America, India and Taiwan. Since 2004, the company has been part of Rockwood Holdings, Inc. In 2012 the company changed its brand from Chemetall Lithium to Rockwood Lithium.

Rockwood Lithium is a global company committed to specialty chemistry and a manufacturer of fine chemicals, e.g. lithium-, cesium- and other metal compounds. The company is a leading producer of lithium metal in many different forms of delivery (e.g. powder, granulate, foils, and anodes), of organolithium compounds (e.g. butyllithium), hydrides (e.g. lithium aluminium hydride, titanium hydride) and nitrogen containing compounds (e.g. lithium amide, lithium nitride). Handling of these reactive, partly pyrophoric materials in lab and production belongs to its core competencies. Rockwood Lithium has a long experience with the production of pure lithium salts, which find a. o. application in battery electrolytes. Especially a group of non-fluorinated materials (e.g. lithium bis(oxalato)borate) which can be applied as conductive salts and as film-forming additives has been developed.
