Instrumental Structure Analysis
The department “Instrumental Structure Analysis” performs morphological and spatially resolved chemical analysis of materials manufactured in the Institute of Membane Research or by partners. For morphological studies, light and electron microscopy (SEM, TEM) as well as an atomic force microscope (AFM) are used. Further spatially resolved investigation of the chemical composition can be performed using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX), energy filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM), electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), and Raman microscopy. The collected morphological data of the membranes are linked together with their processing and performance parameters in a database. Novel digital methods are used to evaluate these data sets in their entirety.
