To create a geo-referenced inventory of sea floor properties in the German Bight, our objectives include:

  • Analysis of existing data Classification and definition, class description
  • Surveying conditions, rates and variability Field investigations of dynamic, chemical and biological processes in representative sediment provinces
  • Use of numeric models Interpolating properties and processes for the entire German Bight, determining average properties at the sediment-water interface and, for longer periods, estimating the natural environmental conditions without anthropogenic influence
  • Transfer of knowledge Describing the environmental state and its variability, deriving indicators for the state, recognising risks in regards to the environmental condition and assessing ecosystem services
