I am broadly interested in plankton interactions and their relevance on the functioning of marine and limnic ecosystems. I employ coupled physical-biogeochemical modelling as a tool to synthesize the available data and information on the numerous physical, chemical and biological processes involved, as well as a medium to formulate and test hypotheses.
I am currently leading the project MOBENSEUT supported by the federal environmental agency (UBA), which aims at developing a numerical modelling framework for constructing the historical and future states of the southern North Sea and evaluating its eutrophication status according to the Water and Marine Strategy Framework Directives.
