Martin Hieronymi received a Diploma in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering (with focus on Hydrodynamics) from the Technical University of Berlin in 2007 and a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences (Meteorology) from the Kiel University in 2011.
Martin's research area is optical oceanography and satellite remote sensing, whereby special emphasis is put on:
- Measurements of underwater photosynthetically available radiation, ocean colour, and inherent optical properties of seawater
- Radiative transfer in the atmosphere-ocean system with special interest in light interactions at the wavy air-sea interface
- Development of specialized algorithms for the retrieval of optical properties and optically-active constituents of natural water bodies
