My main research focuses at HZG are investigation of coast ecosystem processes and study of interaction of global ocean and coastal seas. To address such issues as effects of extreme flood events on biogeochemical cycles of estuaries and adjacent coastal seas or pathways of nutrients and carbon from river mouth to open ocean I am developing and using numerical models. Currently I am involved in the development of three-dimensional unstructured-mesh model FESOM2-coastal. The model is based on a finite-volume discretization and works on mixed unstructured meshes.
