On 20 September an honorary symposium was embedded in the program on the occasion of the 65th birthday of PD Dr. habil. Burkhard Schulz, the deputy speaker of the Graduate School. Since 2011 Mr. Schulz is working at the academic chair „Materials in Life Sciences” at the Institute of Chemistry, University of Potsdam (UP) with a partial secondment to the HZG Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow. His main research focuses are scientific studies of polymer based biomaterials at interfaces by means of Langmuir-techniques and the development of polymer based 2D-materials. Since 2015 he is head of the HZG working group “Materials in Life Sciences”. For almost 25 years, he has lectured on polymer chemistry, on chemical principles of polymer physics, on the chemistry of thin films, on supramolecular chemistry, and on advanced applications of ultra-thin layers, thereby contributing to interdisciplinary training.

The institute thanks Mr. Schulz in this framework for his outstanding scientific achievements as well as for his efforts regarding the Graduate School, which he influenced from its early establishment up to its present existence with tireless commitment. All employees are particularly delighted that he will remain an esteemed colleague and highly appreciated idea provider - as he has not yet decided to retire.
