Cell behaviour towards different wettable biomaterials surfaces: Functional role of integrins in intracellular signalling processes

FAUCHEUX

Project timeline
Start:
September 2001
Duration:
24 months
End:
August 2003
General Information
This interdisciplinary project covers a wide range from material sciences to cell biology and aims at a better understanding of the tissue compatibility of biomaterials. Existing knowledge on the activity of integrins on biomaterials available at GKSS will be combined with the knowledge and expertise in intracellular signalling processes, particularly on cAMP, which will be brought into the project by the M.-C. fellow, Dr Nathalie Faucheux. A particular focus is on how adsorption of adhesive proteins like vitronectin, fibronectin, and others on well defined surfaces such as self assembling monolayers interact with integrins and influence intracellular signalling pathways. Results will be used in biohybrid organ technology and tissue engineering.
