The European Virtual Institute for Speciation Analysis for Improvement of Health, Food, Industry and Environment

EVISA

Project timeline
Start:
April 2003
Duration:
36 months
End:
March 2006
General Information
The overall objective of the project is to set up a Virtual Institute (VI) for Speciation Measurements. This institute will be self-dependent after the three years of the EVISA project, and for this to happen income will be generated from the beginning of the 2nd year of the project. The goal of the planned European Virtual Institute for Speciation Measurements (EVISA) is to develop a highly interactive and innovative network operating to the advantage of all members of the Virtual Institute, i.e. individual industries (food, toys, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, waste water treatment plants, water supply companies, chemical industry, etc), researchers, regulatoriey bodies, commercial and governmental laboratories. EVISA will summarise and disseminate in the most appropriate manner the existing knowledge on metal species determination from the academic world, interact on a daily basis with the industrial sectors to act on a consulting basis to provide the most appropriate solutions to questions and management of the questions raised. The aim of the proposed Virtual Institute is hence to give the industry access to a wide array of expertise concerning speciation measurements by bringing together all European capabilities in the sector. The innovative Virtual institute will finally interact and inform all major institutional European agencies of the current evolution of the industrial demand, inform of the state-of-the-art of the current academic knowledge to help in the definition and promotion of most effective legislative regulation and action.
