"Cities are already the hot spots of climate change. Half of the world's population lives in cities and metropolitan regions where the greatest economic output is generated at the same time - and the trend is upwards. It is clear that cities and urban areas have a key role to play in adapting to climate change and developing solutions to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels. The report supports mayors and city politicians in becoming pioneers in the development and implementation of urgently needed measures."

On Dec. 10 at COP24 in Katowice, Poland, the fi rst outcome of the collaborative process of Innovate4Cities will be revealed: the Summary for Urban Policymakers that brings together scientists, city practitioners and NGOs to explain what the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C means for cities.
