X-Ray Imaging with Synchrotron Radiation

The “X-ray Imaging with Synchrotron Radiation” department operates experimental stations specialized in X-ray imaging at the PETRA III X-ray source: X-ray microscopy, micro/nanotomography as well as nanodiffraction. These can be used, for example, to decipher the structures of complex biological and new synthetic materials or to observe corrosion effects in implants. It is also possible to visualize the ageing process in batteries or the solidification behaviour of light metal alloys in real time. The high-resolution data are the basis for digital 3D models on which computer simulations of real processes are built, known as digital twins. Our instruments are used for our own research and are made available to other external academic and industrial users.
