Regional Land and Atmosphere Modeling

In order to better understand the global coastal systems and the dangers and risks associated with them, it is important to examine the atmosphere, the land, hydrology, the ocean and especially their interactions and feedbacks. We use high-resolution climate representations in the “Regional Land and Atmosphere Modeling” department. Using these representations, we can analyze the development of extreme events or study how wind parks impact the local and regional climate. Furthermore, we model water and matter transport at the land surface. Our aim is to quantify the associated cycles of water and matter and their changes, mainly for the transition from land to the ocean. We investigate processes that are important for climate change management and the transformation of energy systems on the one hand, and have an impact on coastal habitat utilization on the other.
