The Institute of Active Polymers of Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Postdoc (m/f/d) in the area of Computational Image Analysis / Bioinformatics (Image Analysis and Object/Pattern Recognition). This is initially a 3-year fixed term contract (full time preferred).
The related multidisciplinary project focuses on using the modern computational analysis to process and analyze the biological image dataset, thereby to elucidate the mechanism of the interaction of stem cells and polymer based biomaterials. In addition, this project aims to develop novel computational analysis techniques and simulation methods for improved accuracy and efficiency in biological data processing.
The place of employment is Teltow (near Berlin) Germany.

Your tasks

  • correlative analysis and high-content imaging technologies to study stem cell-biomaterial interaction
  • using computational intelligence to process and analyze large images (2D/3D) and video dataset of high-resolution microscopy / tomography
  • developing automatic computational methods to predict and describe the changes of stem cell behavior and function (e.g. size, shape, migration) with time
  • writing publications in peer reviewed journals
  • elucidating the cellular signaling pathways and cell-material interaction mechanism
  • presenting research results in international scientific conferences

Your profile

  • PhD in computational analysis, bioinformatics or relating fields, preferably with a background in cell biology/biomaterials
  • experience on dataset analysis using computational intelligence
  • knowledge on Coding/Programming language and Linux system, experience on Python, Matlab
  • preferably with the knowledge on computational models and simulations
  • fluent English (oral presentation and writing scientific papers)
  • high communication skills for working in an interdisciplinary team

We offer you

  • multinational work environment with ca. 1000 colleagues from more than 50 nations
  • extensive options of vocational training (i. a. expert seminars, language courses or leadership seminars)
  • flexible working hours and various models to ensure the compatibility of family and career
  • excellent infrastructure, including a scientific in-house library as well as modern work spaces
  • an appropriate salary related to the German public tariff (TV-AVH) plus the usual social benefits for the public employment sector
