The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Postdoc (m/f/d) Computational Design of Multimaterial Systems with a focus on the development of models describing the geometry-function relationship of polymeric actuators and multimaterial systems thereof. This is initially a 2-years fixed term contract.
A primary objective of the position will be the development of (computational) models describing and predicting the functions (effects) based on physical principles like mechanics, metastability, transportation/diffusion/motion or heat transfer, etc. with particular focus on shape changing structures with micro-scale design elements (i.e. geometry, [negative] Poisson's ratio).
You have a Ph.D. degree and experience in mechanical or physics engineering, material science, or related fields. You have experience in creating descriptive and predictive physical models as well as computational design models for polymer functions (i.e. actuation), all documented by a strong academic record. You have a proven ability in programming in both scripting and compiled languages (e.g. C, C++, Python), skills in algorithmic and implementation aspects, numerical analysis, code parallelization and code profiling. You have as well a profound knowledge in statistical, continuum and finite element mechanics and appropriate skills in software engineering using state-of-the-art object-oriented languages. You are eager to collaborate with chemists, material scientists, biologists, mechanical engineers and to transfer your ideas to 3D demonstrators of your material design.
