Dr. Torsten Weber

Member of Staff at the Climate System Department

Torsten Weber Torsten Weber

Dr. Torsten Weber is a scientific staff member at the CSC and works on the project „The Future Okavango“. The Okavango river basin in southern Africa is a hot spot of environmental change and land use conflicts. Within the framework of the research project Torsten will analyze the area’s present and future climate conditions under different IPCC scenarios and its influence on the hydrological cycle.

After working as a commercial employee for a shipyard he studied meteorology at the FU Berlin. For his PhD studies he relocated to the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. During this time he was a member of the Emmy Noether Junior Resarch Group „Cloud Climate Feedbacks“ and a student of the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM). For his PhD thesis Torsten analyzed the impact of inhomogeneities on non-linear cloud processes in a global climate model e.g. the cloud and precipitation formation.
