Dr. Hinnerk Ries
Member of Staff at the Climate System Department
Hinnerk Ries
At the CSC Hinnerk Ries answers questions about the future climate and it’s influence for humans. For this he develops methods for extracting climate change signals, their bandwidths and uncertaincies out of numerous simulations derived from different models.
After studying meteorology at the University of Hamburg Hinnerk screened and prepared historical ship-wheather data for the DWD (Germany's National Meteorological Service) and worked for the Alfred-Wegener-Institut for polar and marine research. Combining his hobby sailing with his profession he joined the German Admirals Cup Team as wheather consultant.
In his PhD thesis Hinnerk investigated the influence of land and ice surfaces respectively on the quality of wheather simulations in the arctic and in the area of Valencia (Spain).
