Dr. Paul Bowyer
Member of Staff at the Management of Natural Resources Department
Paul Bowyer
Dr. Paul Bowyer works on the impacts of climate change on agriculture, forestry, biodiversity, water management and health. Based on climate model data he calculates the impacts on human and natural systems, and identifies adaptation options.
A native of England he studied geography and received a PhD in remote sensing. At Salford University and at University College London he used Earth Observation data to invert canopy reflectance models for estimating land surface variables (LSVs). Application areas included estimating LSVs for input to ecological process models, forest fire prediction models, and models of disease transmission. At the British Antartic Survey he provided sea-ice information direct to ships operating in the Southern Ocean.
Before joining the CSC he worked for the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP), helping local authorities, businesses, and policy-makers understand and use UK climate projections. He was also involved in the coordination of a number of research projects, related to climate change adaptation. Through his work Paul wants to help transfer science related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, into practice.
