Assessment of the integrity of light-weight structures made up of same or different materials by using different manufacturing technologies, requires a thorough understanding and quantitative description of their deformation damage and fracture behavior. Developed phenomenological and micromechanical models as well as statistical models will provide novel method and procedures for characterizing material and structures. The results are applied in current industrial projects and are flowing into the standardization of novel procedures for characterizing materials and lightweight structures.
