Biomimetic Materials

We are interested in articifial materials mimicking nature’s materials. For this purpose, we investigate the chemical structure of the materials, including their mechanical behaviour, as well as their biological activity.
The latter point is on the one hand addressed by the loading and controlled release of drugs and proteins, and on the other hand by the incorporation of bioactive peptide and oligosaccharide structures participating in material-cell-interactions. We are synthesizing bioactive smaller compounds and materials, are using molecular modelling for the prediction and analysis of biological interactions, and elucidate the biocompatibility and bioactivity of the compounds.
