Nanostructured Materials

The department focuses on the development and characterization of nanostructured materials, mainly for light weight materials, electrically conductive materials and membrane applications.

Specific interest is concentrated on the modification of nanofillers in order to improve their compatibility with the matrix as well as the dispersion in it. We take advantage of nanocomposite materials, where the properties of the specific domains are modified by the tailored filler.

Our characterization expertise is based on morphology determination and studies of morphology generation (phase separation, nanofiller distribution and organization) as well as mechanical properties. The determination of the structure-properties relationship for the bulk materials and thin films is achieved in that way.
