Research Topics

The main research topic of our group is the structural characterisation of engineering materials. This includes e.g. the investigation of laser welds and friction stir welds of light alloys and the study of metal hydrides for the reversible storage of hydrogen, especially for mobile applications.

The second research topic is the development and characterisation of magnetic materials. The activities in this field are focused on magnetic nanostructures for the understanding of fundamental physical properties, such as exchange bias and spin wave propagation, as well as on new magnetic systems and principles for novel spintronic devices, e.g. for the development of novel data storage media.
The structural characterisation of light metal hydrides or reactive hydride composites used for the reversible storage of hydrogen is an ongoing internal collaboration with the group "Nanotechnology" in the Institute of Materials Research.
