Materials Technology

The division Materials Technology works on selected applications of nano and membrane technology. It works interdisciplinary and across department boarders in close coordination with other research activities at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht and other Helmholtz centres.

Research Topics

The division Materials Technology focuses its activities on the following topics:

Nanocrystalline light metal hydrides and hydride composites for solid state hydrogen storage: Development, optimisation, upscaling of materials production and evaluation of novel hydrogen storage materials, hydrogen storage tank design and test (Dept. Nanotechnology).

Polymer-based membranes for hydrogen separation, purification and for advanced high-temperature PEM fuel cells (Dept. Sustainable Energy Technology)

Deposition of thin layers by magnetron sputtering for corrosion protection and for X-ray and synchrotron optics (Dept. Nanotechnology)
