Research Reactor - Neutrons for science
It was shut down on June 28th 2010.
In contrast to X-rays (left), neutrons (right) reveal more details in the radiographic picture.
The FRG-1 generates neutrons exclusively for scientific purposes – excluding nuclear research.
Similar to X-rays which provide insight into the human body, neutrons penetrate metals, biological and synthetic materials and give information on their atomic and magnetic structure.
Many innovative developments and discoveries were not possible without neutrons, for example novel and safe materials for traffic engineering, modern trace analysis for environmental technology and basic medical processes.
