Formalities & Visas

The guest representative provides support to foreign employees (guest scientist, professors, scholarship recipients) as well as doctoral candidates and their families in term of legal matters applying to foreigners following their arrival at the Research Centre. The Human Resources Department will answer any questions you may have prior to arrival.

The services at a glance:

Visa: Consultation with the institute before the guests arrive on visa and residency requirements. Direct contact with the German consulates in the event of difficulties in applying for a visa

Immigration Office: Negotiations with the immigration office, in particular for best-judgement decisions, residency permits, issue of statements of obligation

Formalities: Resolution of immigration law formalities (e.g. application with the city of Geesthacht, Ratzeburg Immigration Office etc.) for the employee and his family

Social law: Support in applying for social law benefits such as a children's allowance, pension reimbursements etc.

Search for accommodations: Support in renting a place to stay, the relocation process, the search for used household items

Information: Current information and instruction on German course, schools, kindergartens, driver's licenses, physicians, midwives etc.
